Updates on Butuan City Polysports Complex and Recreational Center
Construction is under way for the Butuan City Polysports Complex Project after the city government signed a contract with the J.D. Legaspi Construction.
Mayor Ferdinand M. Amante, Jr. signed on behalf of the city government while Mr. Zhilong Lei, the authorized representative of the J.D. Legaspi Construction signed for the construction company.
Mayor Amante told local media practitioners in a press conference shortly following the contract signing that the city’s polysports complex will soon rise mainly at Brgy. Tiniwisan. A portion of the complex however, may soon extend to the neighboring barangay of Ampayon.
He added that the construction of its Phase 1 will include the city gymnasium, the stadium, the football field and a rubberized track oval. The cost of the Phase 1 construction, will amount to more than P252 million.
The construction of the project’s Phase 2 will start after the completion of Phase 1. The second phase construction will comprise of an Olympic-sized swimming pool, a wake-board park and commercial buildings which will include hotels and boutiques.
After several years of study, the city government has finally decided to construct its own sports arena that can accommodate local, regional and national events such as Annual CARAGA Regional Meet, DepEd’s Palarong Pambansa, CHEd’s PRISAA National Games, etc. The said facilities also can host major concerts like Tanduay T5 or even international sports event such as hosting Suzuki Cup for the Philippine’s National Football Team or the prestigious Southeast Asian Games.
