Gaisano Mall Butuan, the first mall in Butuan City has just started its expansion at the rear vacant lot facing Montalban Street. Accordingly, it will be doubled in size as it expanded backward which will be expanding more on their grocery department, and they allocate additional food and restaurant stalls on the ground floor.
Based on the floor plan, it will have an area of 6000 square meters comprising of a four-storey building.
Unipace Corporation, a shopping mall chain in Mindanao founded by one of the Gaisano brothers’ cousins, operator of Gaisano City Mall in Cagayan de Oro, Gaisano Iligan, Gaisano Malaybalay, Gaisano Valencia is a prime mover behind Gaisano Mall Butuan.
There are other groups founded the opening of other Gaisano malls in the country:
DSG Group, Inc. – founded by David S. Gaisano; operator of the Gaisano Malls in Mindanao as well as the White Gold Club Department Store in Cebu. All of the four Gaisano Malls ran by the group are among the biggest in Mindanao.
Gaisano Grand Group – founded by Benito S. Gaisano (son of Henry Gaisano); operator of the Gaisano Grand Malls
Gaisano Capital Group – founded by Edmund S. Gaisano (cousin of the Gaisano brothers); operator of Gaisano Capital in which Gaisano Capital Butuan started the construction just now at North Montilla Boulevard, Barangay San Ignacio, Butuan City
Metro Retail Stores Group – founded by Victor and his wife Sally Gaisano; operator of department stores, supermarkets and hypermarkets
Gaisano Country Malls – founded by Stephen Gaisano, Jr. (son of Stephen Gaisano); operator of Gaisano Country Mall, Gaisano Main and Gaisano Bogo in Cebu
JHG Trading, Inc. – founded by John Gaisano, Jr. (son of John Gaisano); operator of JS Gaisano in the Davao Region
The Gaisanos family retail business started as a pushcart selling various goods. In the 1970s, a shop-restaurant was established by Doña Modesta Singson Gaisano which was located at the ground floor in a rented house in Colon, Cebu. The establishment was later converted into the White Gold Super Store, which is considered as the predecessor of the Gaisano malls. After the Gaisano matriarch’s death, Modesta’s sons, David, Stephen, Henry, Victor, and John, split the corporation running the store into five together with two other stores ran by the brothers’ relatives. White Gold still exists nowadays and is now named as White Gold Club.
