SM Butuan site at J.C. Aquino Avenue, in front of DV Plaza Building, has started its clearing operation with the presence of heavy equipment such as a backhoe, bulldozer, and cranes, and others. SM Butuan clearing operations last October 2016 did not push through, maybe for its own reason like they prioritize the on-going construction of SM Cagayan de Oro Premier, touted as the largest in Mindanao. But now, the presence of heavy equipments as its making land preparation for building constructions in the area is showing how strong their commitment and pushing their promise to build a giant SM store in Butuan City.
Butuanons and Caraganons are happy about the news since SM Prime Holdings Incorporated (SMPHI) is the maker of the largest shopping mall in the Philippines, and also, one of the world largest shopping mall chains, for the first time building giant SM store in Butuan and Caraga.
Aside from SM Butuan, another development is the on-going construction on the expansion of Robinsons Place Butuan and Gaisano Mall Butuan that will have a big impact on the economic activities in Butuan City.
Once completed, SM Butuan is considered as the 1st in Caraga Region and 6th in Mindanao. SM Prime’s Mindanao malls to date are SM City Davao, SM City Cagayan de Oro, SM City General Santos, SM Lanang Premier, and on-going construction of SM Cagayan de Oro Premier.
It has a similar design with that of SM General Santos. It is a five-storey building, three of which is for commercial spaces while the other two is for rooftop and parking spaces. It also features a helipad and sky garden, just like any other SM mall branches.
SM Prime is the country’s largest mall developer with 50 shopping centers across the country under its name. It also operates five SM malls in China on top of its mall empire in the Philippines.
